Arlie "Pete" J. Piehl, age 90, passed away on September 5, 2023, at 7:33 pm, at his residence surrounded by his family. Arlie was born July 1, 1933, at home in Auglaize County, OH, to Arlie A. and Cora (Webb) Piehl who preceded him in death. On August 6, 1997, he married Velma (Winegardner) Piehl who preceded him in death on September 19, 2022.
Arlie is survived by his children: Dennis (Susan) Piehl of Lima, OH and Linda (Patrick) McGarry of Dimondale, MI, a daughter in-law, Dorothy L. Piehl of Harrod, OH, grandchildren: Jeromy (Janel) Piehl, Scott (Gloria) Piehl, Charity Piehl, Quentin "Adam" (Ashley) Piehl, Emily Piehl, Eli (Krista) Piehl, Alexis Moore and Amanda (Andrew) Taliaferro, extended family includes numerous step-children, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren and a brother, Donald (Carol) Piehl of Harrod, OH. He was preceded in death by his previous spouse, Margaret Frances Piehl, a son, Robert Piehl, grandchildren: Jacob Piehl and Racheal Piehl, siblings: Maxine (Ralph) Jones, Gladys (Joe) Hall, Dortha (Joe) Hervey, Carolyn (Bill) Hill, Lester (Mary Anne) Piehl and Harold (Toinette) Piehl.
Arlie was a graduate of Harrod High School and then joined the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean War. When he returned home, he began working for Teledyne Ohio Steel as a machine operator retiring in 1996. In retirement he became a teacher's aide in the carpentry department at Apollo. He also volunteered at Lima Memorial Hospital where he accumulated more than 2000 hours. Arlie was a member of Westminster Christian Church. He was a former member of the Farm Bureau. Some of his interests included a love for wood working, camping and traveling.
There will be a funeral service held on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 3:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Pastor Gary Rummel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army.
Friends may visit on Sunday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy-Health St. Rita's Hospice or the Westminster Christian Church. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
