Obituary For Camille A. Vermillion

Camille A. (Ewing) Vermillion, age 87, died on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 11:50am at Keystone Pointe Health and Rehabilitation in Lagrange, OH. She was born on April 8, 1936 in Alger, OH to Elmer Ray and Zoah Dell (Thompson) Ewing and they preceded her in death. On July 2, 1954, she married Richard (“Dick”) L. Vermillion, who preceded her in death on November 10, 2020.

Camille graduated from Alger High School, and after raising their five kids, she worked for 20 years in the Allen County Fair Board Office. She also spent many years helping with activities in The Oaks Nursing Home. She was a member of the Lafayette Congregational Christian Church in Lafayette, OH, and also attended Belden Methodist Church in Grafton, OH.

Surviving are two sons; Chris (Joann) of Louisville, KY and Mark (Linda) of Fishers, IN, and two daughters; Tracy (Ted) Schriver of Grafton, OH and Lisa (Mark) Antonucci of Brecksville, OH. Daughter Julie (Larry) Jordan preceded her in death. There are 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Camille was also preceded in death by sisters Roberta Allen, Grace Barrett, Evelyn Funni and Carolyn Williamson, and brother Richard Krouskop.

Camille enjoyed reading, photography, listening to music, gardening, “holding the horses”, the Allen County Fair, dogs, camping and traveling to visit family and friends. She was a sweet and fun lady and a wonderful role model, always positive and looking on the bright side, and she could always see things from the other person’s perspective. Most of all, she enjoyed time with her best friend, her husband Dick. They had 66 wonderful years together, with a lot of love and laughter.

A dual celebration of the lives of both Camille and Dick will be held on Saturday, January 27 at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home Eastside Chapel at 828 Bellefontaine Avenue, Lima OH 45801. Family will receive friends 11am-12pm for visitation. Immediately following, Pastor Brian Jenkins will officiate a celebration of Camille and Dick. All are welcome to then attend the burial at Preston Cemetery in Alger, OH, and then a cookie reception at Lafayette Congregational Christian Church to share memories of Dick and Camille. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lafayette Congregational Christian Church, 205 W. Main Street, PO Box 7242, Lafayette, OH 45854; or to Belden Methodist Church, 36130 State Route 303, Grafton, OH 44044. Condolences may be expressed at the Chiles-Laman website:
