Obituary For Charles A. Bowsher

Charles A. Bowsher was born December 10, 1934 till Sunday, September 17, 2023, at 10:58 am when he took his Saviour's hand to lead him home.

He was born to C. Adrian and Emma I. (Stemen) Bowsher who preceded him in death. On June 24, 1961 he married Persetta Wires who survives in Lima. They were married for 62 years.

Charles was an avid gardner, loved Western Square Dancing, playing cars with his Great-Grandsons, and was a huge Nascar fan. He always looked forward to eating with the lunch bunch at Apollo Cafe with the Class of 1952 from Lima Central High School. He was quick to share his knowledge and ability to anyone who asked, a special friend, Mike Fiedler refered to him as the "Old Man" book of knowledge about cars. His family would ship car parts when in Alaska so he could fix the cars. He was in U.S. Army from 1957 until 1959 with the Arctic Test Board in Alaska preparing vehicles to be ready for the possible Cold War. Charles worked with Oldsmobile dealerships as a mechanic from 1952 until 1986, after much arm twisting he left to teach at Northwestern College, now UNOH, from 1986 until 1998 to teach and share with his students the same passion for cars he had.

Survivors include: a Son, Cris A. (Donna) Bowsher of Ada; a Grandson, Chad A. Bowsher of Lima; 2 Great-Grandsons, Connor A. and Benjamin Bowsher; a Sister, Dorothy Danner of Lima; a Brother-in-law, Larry Esmonde of Lima.

He was preceded in death by: 2 Brothers, Thomas (Elaine) Bowsher, David (Linda) Bowsher; a Sister, Susann Esmond; a Brother-in-law, Toby Danner; Nephews, Kevin Danner, Gene Bowsher, and Kerry Danner; along with Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm Friday and from 10:00 am until time of services at 11:00 am Saturday, September 23, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES SHAWNEE CHAPEL with Chaplain Lydia Brenneman officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the U. S. Army.

I had the pleasure of working with Charles at Northwestern College for many years. What a wonderful guy and very dedicated to his students, as well as us fellow faculty members. I always thought of him as a mild mannered guy, who knew so very much and made certain his students were taught well. I'm so very sorry for your loss and I share your grief.
