Obituary For Edward H. "Ed" Wantuch
Edward H. "Ed" Wantuch, 92 of Lima, passed away November 3, 2023, at Wyngate Senior Living Community.
Ed was born December 5, 1930 in Lima to Michael and Alexandria "Alice" (Rypinskeite) Wantuch, who preceded him in death. On February 10, 1955, he married the love of his life, Doris (Stevenson) Wantuch, who preceded him in death on June 16, 2013.
Ed was a graduate of St. John High School and a proud United States Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He worked for 30 years at Ford Motor Company, starting on the floor, working his way up to Foreman, then up to General Foreman and then up to Superintendent until his retirement in 1987. Ed was a member of St. John Catholic Church and VFW Post #1275. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved working in his yard. Ed enjoyed playing his guitar and teaching his grandchildren card and magic tricks. He was an avid sports fan and he enjoyed watching the Columbus Bluejackets and Cincinnati Reds. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially playing cards with his grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Jeannine (George) Hakin of Lima; son, Joe Wantuch of West Chester; daughters, Kathryn (Todd) Hixson of Zanesville and Mary Linda (Jeff) Schroeder of Westerville; grandchildren, Kylie (Adam) Longmeier, Kristin Johnson, Jack Wantuch, Francesca Wantuch, Danny (Hunter) Hixson, Steven Hixson, Sean Schroeder, J. Schroeder and Alexandra (Kerry) Schroeder-Hoar; great-grandchildren, Dylan Longmeier, Liam Longmeier, Asher Longmeier, Nico Longmeier, Xavier Johnson, Demitrius Johnson, Braylon Phillips-Johnson, Aidan Johnson, Parker Hixson, Riley Hixson and Alivia Schroeder; great-great-granddaughter, Jade and his extended family in Lithuania.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph M. Wantuch; sisters, Wanda V. Ellis and Stella Cogley and his daughter-in-law, Therese Wantuch.
Ed's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and residents at Wyngate Senior Living Community, as well as the special people at Interim Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, November 13, 2023 at St. John Catholic Church with Father David Ross to officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery immediately following the mass.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES - SHAWNEE CHAPEL.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Catholic Church or Interim Hospice.
