Lima, Ohio

Erma Jean Thornton, age 76, was called home to the Lord at 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Lima Memorial Health System with the love of her family by her side.

Erma was born February 10, 1947, in Lima, OH, to John and Louise (Mickens) Youngblood who both preceded her in death.

Erma was a member of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. She was a prayer warrior and loved anointing people with her blessed oils. Above all, Erma enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by four children, Kayzel Moore of Lima, Christina Leeks of Waco, TX, Walter (Keri) Jones, Jr. of Toledo, and Kenya (Stephen) Jones - Nwaku of Lima; special daughters, Marva Fisher, Trina Fisher, Falisha Burns, Sharon Fisher, and Vermetha Shorter all of Lima; special son, Alan Fisher of Lima; nine granchildren; eight great-grandchildren; twenty one special grandchildren; and twenty one special great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Youngblood of Lima; former husband, Jimmie Thornton of Waco, TX; former companion, Walter Jones, Sr. of Lima; sister-in-law, Wilma Youngblood, of Lima; and special sister, Betty Williams of Lima; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Herman "Dwayne" Thornton; grandson, Zionair Jones; four brothers, David Youngblood, John Youngblood, Van Youngblood, Jewel Youngblood; and four sisters, Willa Mae Youngblood, Jennie Mae Williams, Christine Youngblood, and Ella Collier.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1904 S. Main Street, Lima, OH 45804. Pastor Arnold Manley will officiate the service. A burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, prior the service at the church.
