Obituary For Ernest Lee Sims

Ernest Lee Sims, 63 of Lima, passed away on June 15, 2024 at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center.

Ernest was born August 2, 1960 in Lima, to John and Martha (Nettles) Sims, who preceded him in death.

Ernest was a 1979 graduate of Lima Senior High School and he went on to earn an Associate's Degree in business from UNOH. He was an avid Ohio State and Miami Dolphins football fan and he loved cooking and grilling. He was a cook at Azzarrello's and he loved swimming; he was a lifeguard for many years. Ernest enjoyed playing cards, riding around and spending time with his family. Most of all, he was a child of God who loved going to church.

Ernest is survived by his children, Nakita R. Sims and John R. Jenkins; god son, Malachi J. Williams; siblings, Ruby J. Sims, John L. (Linda) Sims, Jr., Melvin D. (Cheryl) Sims, Armin J. (Charles) Petty, Betty J. Sims, Carolyn R. Sims and Tony Long and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ernest is preceded in death by his siblings, James L. Sims, Shirley A. Macklin, Joe L. Sims and Roy E. Sims; paternal grandparents, John Wesley and Maggie Nettles and his maternal grandmother, Grace Chaplin.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES - SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
