Obituary For G. Wayne Baker

G. Wayne Baker, age 82 of Elida, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at his residence surrounded by his family.

Wayne was born October 5, 1941, in Van Wert, to Harold E. and Mary J. (Bennett) Baker who preceded him in death. On March 29, 1981 he married Sandra 'Sandy' K. (Ward) Baker who survives.

Also surviving are his "girls": Tina (Doug) Chandler of Ft. Jennings, Cindy Lange, Kelly (Mark "Doc") Schimmoller and Kim Place all of Delphos, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and Drifter, his partner in law enforcement.

He is preceded in death by brother, Walter Eugene 'Gene' Baker.

He was a graduate of Wren High School and served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam aboard the USS Lake Champlain. He retired from Pepsi as a machine operator in 2006. He was a past president of the Allen County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman's Council and past president of the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association and Mounted Posse. He was a Special Deputy for the Allen County Sheriff's Office serving with the Mounted Posse for 20 years and Hancock County Sheriff's Mounted Posse for ten years.
His enjoyment in life was horses and friends, hanging with his daughters and grandchildren.

Services will begin at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 24, 2024 at the Shawnee Chapel of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Sunday, from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice or Ohio Horseman's Council, Allen County Chapter.
