James W. Smith, 92, of Lima passed away at 2:30 AM on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at St.Rita's Medical Center.

He was born on December 19, 1930, in Lima to Cecil W. and Lillian (Baker) Smith, who both preceded him in death. On January 31, 1954, he married Margaret A. "Peggy" (White) Smith, who preceded him in death on November 29, 2014.

James proudly served his country as a member of the US Army, during the Korean War era. He was the Chairman of the Board at Lima Armature Works. Prior to that he had worked for Lima Electric Motors. He was a long-time member of Central Christian Church, Lima. He was also a member of American Legion Post 191, Spencerville, the F.O.P.A. and a former member of the Lima Jaycee's. James enjoyed camping, boating and golf.

Surviving are his children Richard W. (Ann) Smith and Janette “Sue” (Roy) Smith both of Elida; his six grandchildren Matthew (Amber) Smith, Brien (Lauren) Smith, Troy (Ashley) Smith, Sherrie (Travis) Summers, Janelle (Adam) Stone and Andrea (Kory) Sebenoler; his twelve great-grandchildren; his sister Janet (Zane) Miller of Pensacola, FL.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Zane Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, November 10, 2023, at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Rev. Todd Cosart will officiate.

Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery will immediately follow.
