Obituary For Jean Ann Holtz

Jean Ann Holtz, age 95 of Lima, passed away at 8:02 a.m., on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at her residence.

Jean Ann was born September 27, 1928, in Lima, to Raymond and Marie (Connaughton) Dorley who preceded her in death. On November 23, 1950, she married Richard J. Holtz who preceded her in death on August 2, 1990.

They were the parents to seven wonderful children: Gregory G. Holtz (dec'd), Stephen R. Holtz of Ottawa, Elaine Marie (James Dollens) Hutchings of Hiawassee, GA, Paula K. Lash of Lima, David M. (Gretine) Holtz of Federal Way, WA, Donald M. Holtz of Macon, GA and Margaret Ann (Daniel-dec'd) Routhieaux of Lima; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Sr. Claudia Holtz of Toledo and Roseann Jackson of Lima.

She is preceded in death by the following siblings: Mary A. Eshman, Raymond B. Dorley, Patrick K. Dorley, Paul D. Dorley and Donald Dorley.

Jean was a graduate of St. Rita's School of Nursing and worked a handful of years at Lima State Hospital before her long career at St. Rita's Hospital from which she retired after 37 years. She was a charter member of St. Charles Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Rita's Nursing Alumni, F.O.E. Aerie #370, V.F.W. Post 1275 Auxiliary, B.P.O.E. #54 and the Sweet Adelines.

Jean had a real zest for life which endeared her to many people around the Lima area. She loved playing cards and socializing with her friends. The bingo hall at St Rose and the Lima Eagles were places where folks could always drop in to find Jean and hear one of her legendary stories. She could have anyone rolling with laughter and more often than not it was just by being herself. She would brighten everyone's day with her welcoming smile and ever youthful spirit.

Jean's dedication to her faith was evident by her daily rosary and prayers for others. She was loved by countless people and she will be affectionately remembered as she transitions into her eternal life with our Lord Jesus.

Her visitation will be on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the Shawnee Chapel of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services. A visitation will be held at the St. Charles Catholic Church Gathering Space, Monday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Her Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., on Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church, with Fr. Kent Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery following the service.

Jean and my mother were best friends for over 40 years. She always treated me like one of her own children and I loved her very much. I am so sorry that she is gone, but glad that her struggle here on earth is over. Miss you Jeannie! Love, Bob Reddersen
