Obituary For Jeanne E. Helmig

Lima, Ohio
Jeanne Helmig (born Jeanne Evonne Wolf) passed away on May 24, 2024, at 12:05 p.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center surrounded by family. She was 92 years old.
Jeanne was the daughter of Clyde and Bessie Wolf born on November 12, 1931, in Lima, Ohio.
On December 12, 1952, Jeanne married a soldier, Donald Helmig. She was always very proud to be an army wife. During their marriage, they traveled around the world and lived in many different cities. She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband who passed away in 2001, her two children Nora and Eric who did not survive infancy, and her parents.
Jeanne and her husband raised five children: Kurt Helmig (Janet) of Berwyn, IL, Bonnie Pulfer (Michael) of Byron, IL, Julie Hadding of Columbus Grove, OH, Lisa Seffernick (Mark) of Lima, OH and Kit Helmig of Lima, OH. Their names often fused into one attention-grabber that went along the lines of, “Kurt-Bonnie-I mean Julie-Lisa-Kit-Oh, whatever your name is!” Her children will forever cherish the memories and lessons she shared with them.
Her family grew to include 11 grandchildren: Richard, Lynn Marie, Christopher, Joshua, Nathaniel, Sarah, Ryan, Shane, Madalynn, Luke, and Cole. She also had four great- grandchildren: Abigail, Austin, Carson, and Spencer. Her grandchildren were blessed to grow up with the kind of grandma they write about in storybooks; the kind that is loving, supportive, and gentle in everything that she did.
She was very involved in her community throughout the years. She was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans, a docent at the Allen County Museum for many years, a parishioner of St. Gerard Church, a canteen volunteer preparing food to pass out to servicemen at the train depot during the Vietnam War, a Girl Scout leader, and a homeroom mother on countless occasions.
Jeanne loved learning history, writing letters, reading, going to church, watching the evening news (albeit usually with a concerned look on her face), seeing her children and grandchildren perform on stage, mulling over a nice map with a magnifying glass, discussing current events, volunteering, and giving socks with Christmas presents. You could always find her curled up with a good mystery novel, preferably with a cup of coffee nearby. Her thoughtfulness shone in the birthday cards she never forgot to send and the occasional comic strip she mailed you because it made her think of you.
She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and an adoring grandmother. Her warm smile and infectious laugh lit up any room she was in. The grace and kindness she extended to everyone she met left behind a beautiful legacy. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gerard Catholic Church, followed by burial at Gethsemani Cemetery.
