Obituary For John W. Dixon

John W. Dixon, 72, of Lima passed away at 2:08 PM on Saturday, December 2, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born on July 9, 1951 in Toledo to J. Walter and Mary (Burnett) Dixon, who both preceded him in death. On June 5, 1982, he married Gayle Henry, who survives in Lima.

John had worked at Lazarus as an assistant manager and retired after working there for over 30 years. He was a member of the former Central Christian Church and South Side Christian Church. He faithfully served as a Board President, life -time Elder and on the Finance Committee at Central Christian. He was an avid poker player and had participated in the World Series of Poker. John enjoyed family vacations in Las Vegas and Lakeside, Ohio. He loved sports, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes football. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife Gayle Dixon of Lima are her son Jay (Easter) Dixon of Worthington and Diana (Jeff Haggard) Smith of Cridersville; his grandchildren Hunter Smith, Natalie Smith, Ezra Haggard and Kellen Dixon; his sister Mary Jean (Lee) Schimmel of Northwood, OH and his brother-in-law Bobby Williams. Also surviving are his beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Mike Dixon and his sister Patti Williams.

Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM prior to the services.

Rev. Todd Cosart will officiate the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army or the charity of the donor's choice.

    Mary Jean, I am so sorry to hear of Johnny's passing. I've been sitting here remembering all of the fun times I had with him, you, Patty, and Mike on Parkwood and at Mimi's.
