Lawrence "Guy" Johnson Sr., age 84, passed away on August 28, 2023, at 7:11 pm, at his residence surrounded by his family. Lawrence was born July 14, 1939, in Jackson, KY, to Chester and Lillie (Edsel) Johnson who preceded him in death. On November 26, 1956, he married Sharon Kay (Hanthorn) Johnson who preceded him in death on June 16, 2016.
Lawrence is survived by his children: Rick Lee (Brenda) Johnson, John Edward Johnson and Daniel A. Johnson all of Lima, OH, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren, 2 daughters in-law, Charlotte Johnson of Cridersville, OH and Kimberly Johnson of Lima, OH. He was preceded in death by his children: Gregory Eugene Johnson, Kevin Wayne Johnson, Nancy Kay Johnson and Lawrence Johnson Jr., 8 siblings: Jaley Rose, Arch Johnson, Herbert Johnson, Margaret Johnson, Leone Johnson, Kash Johnson, Charles Johnson and Garland Johnson.
Lawrence had worked at the Ohio Mushroom Company for 13 years and then in 1968 transferred to the Lima Ford Engine plant where he worked as a sub assembler retiring in 1998. He was known for his garden and liked to whittle on wood and spending time with his family. He liked watching ball games and an occasional chew.
There will be a funeral service held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Officiating the service will be Rev. James Smith. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery following the service.
Friends may visit on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and then one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.chiles-lamanfh.com.
