Obituary For Mary Lyda Knowlton

Mary Lyda Knowlton, 89, of Lima passed away at 2:30 PM on Monday, May 27, 2024 at Otterbein Cridersville SeniorLife Community.

She was born on March 23, 1935 in Wakeman, Ohio to Plummer T. and Mary E. (Bunting) Dunkle, who both preceded her in death. On September 16, 1953, she married William H. Knowlton, who preceded her in death on May 29, 2004.

Mary had worked for Huntington National Bank for over 15 years in the Trust Department, The Ohio State University Lima Campus for over 29 years in Admissions and for the Power Company for over 7 years in their Commercial Division. She was a member of New Hampshire Community Church and Rousculp Church of Christ. Mary was also a member of the DAR Lima Chapter and The Ohio State Alumni Association and was a volunteer at Lima Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed doing the New York Times crossword puzzle daily. Mary was a diehard fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Surviving are her son Daniel T. (Juliana) Knowlton of Nancy, KY; her daughter Diane L. (Ty) Baker Lotz of Lima; her nine grandchildren Nicole Carlo, Brian Knowlton, Madison (Brandon) Anderson, Kendra (Ryan) Figley, Jacob (Sabrina) Sandusky, Katelynn (Jason) Sarno, Julie (Matt) Boatman and Lindsey (Chase) Hughes; her great-grandchildren Kasen Knowlton, Mia, Emma and Raya Anderson, Bensen and Charleigh Figley, Sydney, Cameron and Grady Sarno, Charlie and Claire Mary Boatman, Patrick, Everett and Aliya Sandusky, Hallie and Knox Hughes; her brothers Plummer T. (Ulla) Dunkle of Albertus, PA and Noel Mead (Linda) Dunkle of Emmaus, PA.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Doug Baker; her grandson Blake Knowlton; her brothers Joseph N. Dunkle and John Zierton; her sister Martha Jean Goldsberry.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at New Hampshire Community Church, 114 E. Market St., New Hampshire, where the family will receive friends for 2 hours prior to the service from 2 :00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date at the convenience of the family.

The family has asked for all those that attend, please wear your Ohio State attire in remembrance of Mary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Interim Hospice.
