Obituary For Raymond G. Foley

Raymond G. Foley, age 81, passed quietly and comfortably at the Columbus home of his niece, Kim, on March 8, 2024.

Ray was born February 22, 1943, in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Dewey and Genevee (Roberts) Foley. He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Alicia (Potter) Foley, on October 27, 2022. He is also preceded in death by brothers, Gene and Irwin Foley.

Ray was a 1961 graduate of Lima Senior High School. During his middle and high school years, Ray learned boxing and competed. He worked at the Lima Citizen News as a district circulation manager and at Brunner News followed by managing a local gas station. He joined his brother, Irwin, at Gasdorf Tool and Machine, in Lima for five years. Ray reported for military service twice and was deemed more valuable at home due to his tool and die expertise. Eventually, he was hired by Dana in 1970 and retired in 2003.

He fondly remembered purchasing his first car, a new 1962 Chevy Nova and later a 1962 Chevy Belair in cream puff white. Ray loved cars and in later years he proudly showed his restored El Caminos at car shows.

Ray was a lifelong, dedicated member of Lima First Church on Findlay Road. He invested in the church’s young people through leading the Royal Rangers program for 35 years. He also volunteered in orchestra, choir, as a bus driver, men’s ministries leader, Acts of Kindness program, and as deacon.

Ray is survived by his loving niece, Kimberly “Kim” Foley of Hilliard his nephews Timothy “Rusty” (Letecia “Tish”) Foley of Westcliffe, CO, Doug (Patty) Foley of Coldwater, MI, Rob (Melissa) Foley of Lima, John (Tammy) Foley of Westminster, Michael Todd (Kim) Foley of FL; Several great-nieces and great-nephews and two great-great-nieces. Also surviving are his brother-in-law Glen Potter of Dayton and his close friend Edie Houston.

He is preceded in death by his sister-in-law Susan Bilbrey.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of services at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Lima First Church, 1660 Findlay Road, Lima, Ohio 45801.

Pastors Darrell Bucher and Timothy “Rusty” Foley will officiate the service.

Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lima First Church Horizon Building Fund.
