Obituaries

Richard P. "Dick" Vermillion, 95 of Cridersville, passed away September 28, 2023, at Cridersville Health Care Center. Dick was born April 22, 1928 in Lima to Louis T. and Leona (McDonel) Vermillion, who preceded him in death. On August 16, 1947, he married E. "Ruth" (Collins)Vermillion, who preceded him in death on January 12, 2018. Dick was a graduate of Lima South High School and worked as an Instrument Supervisor at Standard Oil until his retirement. He was a member of South Side Christian Church since 1954 where he proudly served as deacon and was awarded the title of Deacon Emeritus. Dick was an avid and talented golfer who landed a hole-in-one at Colonial Golf Course and he enjoyed playing cards with his card club. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends and he will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Dick is survived by his son, Jerry Vermillion of Spencerville; grandchildren, Christopher (Mary) Vermillion of Rogement, NC, Wendy (Larry) Zak of Lancaster, NY, Alan (Brandy) Vermillion of Lincoln, NE, Phillip (Heather) Vermillion of Lima and Natalie Vermillion of Lima; great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, Samantha Vermillion, Lauren Zak, Justin Vermillion, Rachel Vermillion, Hunter Vermillion, Haley Vermillion, Phillip Stemen and Steffani Gaines; several great-great grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Ralph (Mauvette) Collins and Don (Vivian) Collins; sister-in-law, Wileta Collins and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his son, Ronald Vermillion; daughter-in-law, Linda Vermillion; brother, Robert C. Vermillion; sister, Alice Elizabeth "Betty" (Tom) Beeson and his brothers-in-law, Floyd Collins and Fred Collins. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at South Side Christian Church with Rev. Todd Cosart and Rev. Wanda Werking to officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, October 2, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL and again from 9:30 until the time of the service at South Side Christian Church.
