Obituary For Robert Wilson Porter

Lima, OH
Robert Wilson Porter, age 80, passed away on January 29, 2024 at VanCrest of Delphos, OH. He was born in Lima, Ohio on September 22, 1943, to Floyd Eugene "Gene" Porter and Suzanne (Wilson) Nelson who both preceded him in death.
Robert is survived by his two daughters, Angela Marcile Stemen and Tara Leigh (Andrew) Bahnsen, 6 grandchildren: Christopher (Jennifer) Walther, Kristen (Charles) Liedtke, Jakob, Emma, Leah, and Noah Bahnsen, and his 5 great grandchildren: Lilly, Isaiah, Elijah, Adelina and Levi.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force from Feb. 28 1963-Dec. 23 1966 where he was deployed to Vietnam. He achieved multiple degrees in undergraduate and graduate work. His love of history lead him to teaching, as well as, being active in antique dealing. He moved up to principal and then Superintendent in Developmental Disabilities. Robert had been an auxiliary police officer in Ottawa, OH and a member of the VFW #1275. He had a deep love of traveling, international cuisine, and exploring new cultures. He procured a Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate and traveled extensively teaching English in South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, China and New Zealand. Thailand always had a special place in his heart. Robert loved to bowl at Twentieth Century Lanes where he was a high scoring PBA Bowling Champion, bowling numerous 300 games. He also loved to hunt and Fish.
There will be a memorial visitation held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL where military honors provided by the US Air Force and the VFW #1275.
