Russell E. Young, 93, of Lima passed away at 12:55 PM on Monday, September 4, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at Primrose Retirement Community.

He was born on May 24, 1930 in Lima to G. Lloyd and Zelma (McOwen) Young, who both preceded him in death. On September 18, 1951, he married his loving wife of almost 72 years, Janet (Plaugher), who survives in Lima.

Russell was a truck driver for over 30 years and retired from American Freight. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Harrod Christian Church. He enjoyed going to casinos, vacationing at their cottage in Michigan for over 40 years. He loved traveling , music and golf. He also enjoyed wintering in Bradenton, FL. He was also a fisherman and enjoyed hunting in his younger years. He loved chocolate and used his computer daily.

Surviving are his loving wife Janet Young of Lima; his sons Les (Susan) Young of Harrod and Jeff (Deb) Young of Ada; his daughter Aunalee (David) Weihrauch of Jenera; his seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law Jeralon of Lima.

He was preceded in death by his brother Randall Young and his sister Janice (Jim) Crowe.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 11, 2023 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL, where the family will receive friends for 2 hours prior from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Rev. Gary Rummel will officiate the services.

Interment in Memorial Park Cemetery, will immediately follow the service, where VFW Post #1275 and active duty member of the US Army will conduct final military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harrod Christian Church.
