Obituary For William "Bill" J. Staup

William "Bill" J. Staup, as he is affectionately known to most of us, left this life on June 4, 2024, in the same manner as he entered it, surrounded by family who love and adore him.

Bill was born May 19, 1946, in Ada, Ohio to Emerson Merlin and Margaret Corrinne (Stockler) Staup, Sr. He was the 11th of their 12 children and devoted his life to caring for and about his entire family. Uncle Willy was the " family man " and became the glue that held it all together. He was the entire phone tree relaying family news, heartache and announcements throughout the years. He attended any and all events when invited if humanly possible and imparted gems of wisdom to us all such as "you'll live to do it again."

Bill had an incredible work ethic starting as a bag boy in 1963 for Pangles Grocery Store in Lima, Ohio and working his way up to Union Representative for the UFCW Local 911 located in Holland, Ohio in December 1975, he held that position for 28 years and 9 months officially "picking up my toys and going home" on August 1, 2004. For the final four years of that time, he also acted as the Secretary / Treasurer for the members. Bill loved his job and took pride in being a Union man and advocate for union workers. Bill used to love reading the obituary page in the paper to see if he was listed... he finally made it.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers; Emerson " Bud " Jr., John, Carl, Tom and Tim Staup, two sisters; Margaret " Peg " Crow and Miriam " Kay " Ansley, nieces Mary (Crow) Newland and Patricia (Staup) Brigner, nephews Gary, David and Ronald Staup and Brad Ansley and great nieces Elizabeth Honroth and Zoe and Chloe Watts and great-great nephew Lincoln Dean Crow. Siblings-in-law Joe Ansley, Larry Shaw, Dee Staup and Bob Lutz also preceded him as well as his lifelong friend Warren Fisher.

Bill is survived by two brothers and sisters in law; Robert (Carolyn Underwood) Staup, Sr. and Michael (Janet Spafford) Staup, Sr. and two sisters; Carol Shaw and Sue Lutz. Also surviving are special siblings-in-law Harold (Betty Taylor) Crow, Peggy Staup, Joan Staup, Nancy Staup, Denise Morrison and Cheryl Siegmann.

Uncle Willy never married and when asked how many children he had he would answer "over 40" referring to his 47 nieces and nephews 41 of whom survive and who all loved and will miss him dearly. Surviving their uncle are Phil, Kevin (Glenda), Paul (Patty) and Jim (Caren) Crow; Allen (Charlene), Emerson III (Lisa), Jim (Kathy), Robert Jr., Brian (Tammy), Carla, Michael, Jeff, Tommy, Mike Jr. (Christie), Jim (Lori , Penney, Shellie and Eli (Jamie) Staup; Susan (Terry) Malesa, Pam (Dennis Jacobs), Jodi (Rik Savering) Quinn; Rick (Laura), Ron (Julie), Randy (Tara) and Cathy Shaw; Connie (Steve) Calabrese, Cindy (Jeff) Honroth, Deb (Dave) Johnson, Brett (Cathy) Ansley, Chris Ruvoldt, Diane (Kent) Kahn, Trudy (Ronda Perkins) White, Tammy (Ed) Morrison, Joe (Amanda Barnhardt) Houston, Jeanie (George) Watts, Julie (Farzin) Fotouhi, Sherrie (Mike) Scarberry, James Lutz Jr., Jennifer (Jamie) Henry, Terra (Joe) Marshall and Moriah (Matt) Voirol. Also surviving are 93 great-nieces and nephews and 85 great-great nieces and nephews.

Bill will be sorely missed but we will honor his wishes - we won't grieve and mourn his absence instead we will share stories, repeat jokes, steal quotes and ensure the tears shed will be a result of the deep laughter from remembering a life truly well lived.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL.

Uncle Bill, You were an incredible man and already so greatly missed. I will never forget the time you were so excited you bought something for Kyah and couldn't wait to show her. It was a massive stuffed animal that came to be named the "ehh ehh ehh" 🐵 I can still hear your laugh today when you gave it to her, and I wanted to kill you because I had no idea where I was going to put that thing we held onto it for a few years because she loved it she would sleep on it climb on it, but it was massive. It's memories like that we will hold onto. I love you always Terra, Joe, Kyah and Ellie
