Obituary For William C. Lamont Jr.

Lima, OH
Lt. Col. William "Bill" C. Lamont Jr., age 84, passed away on February 8, 2024, at 11:50 am, at the Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center. Bill was born in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1975, he moved to Lima from Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Over the next 34 years, Bill worked in the field of College Admissions at several area colleges. Before retirement, Bill also completed over 32 years of active and reserve duty with the U.S. Army which included 13 months in Korea. He had many accomplishments during his military career where he received a Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal and Korean War Medal. Bill has had an interest in history, especially military history. His membership in the Pritzker Military Museum and Library has provided excess to this area history. After retirement from college employment, Bill spent several years working at Meijers as a greeter. In addition, he has spent time as a community ambassador in the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce. At the same time, he served on the Task Force Lima Committee working to help retain the Army Tank Plant in Lima. Bill enjoyed baseball and softball. By attending several trips to the Cincinnati Reds "Baseball Heaven" camps, which started in 2001, his baseball dream was realized. The softball experience was gained in playing in the "Over 50 Years of Age League" in Lima. More recently, Bill was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky for his membership in the Fort Knox Retirement Council. Ohio is one of the states that makes up this council. Following Bill's wishes there will not be any public services held at this time. Burial of cremated remains will be held privately at a later date in the Memorial Park Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army. The CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL is honored to be assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Bill was a great friend during our professional staff days at Lima Tech...I shall treasure your baseball cards from your summers at the Reds camps, and the times we watched the Lima Locos baseball team. My best to Karen and family.

I worked with Bill at UNOH in the late 80's and recall him being a very kind and gentle man. Go Bucks! May you R.I.P., Bill.
